Welcome Back!

Hello, all. Welcome back to the 2008-2009 school year! We obviously have to adjust to some changes (new computers, new room). I would really enjoy reading about what you were up to over the summer. Did you work? Travel? READ???
We went on a few different trips that were fairly close to home. We went to the Finger Lakes- Keuka Lake actually. We went to the Corning Museum of Glass and made our own sun catchers and glass flowers- very cool. We went to Ellicottville, Niagara-on-the-Lake and of course we hit all of the festivals around Buffalo. I also read five, count them, FIVE new books over the summer. I really enjoyed just taking it easy over the break…and I’m glad I did because I have been working hard to get my new room in order and re-learn PCs!
Take some time to respond to the blog- tell me what you did over the summer…

Over the summer i did a lot of things. I worked all summer at a daycare center 5 days a week. There we went on a lot of feild trips, we went to african lion safari, fantasy island, marine land , and the butterfly effect. I had a lot of fun with all of the kids. On weekends i went out with my friends and we went to david busters, bowling, the beach, and to parties. i had a lot of fun over the summer and can’t wait for it to come back around

Well let me see I worked at the Grease Pole Festival with my mom’s friend for a weekend and it was actually fun just too many people. I didn’t get to do much during the summer except look for a job and play some sports, but wasn’t all that exciting. My dad went with my brothers to New York and I refused to go with them since it was going to be a waste of time. But we went to Toronto and it was fun until my dad’s friends ruined most of it. The fun part was that my brother won a 100$ value gift basket at Sears. For the most part i tried to enjoy the trip and good thing I did or none of my dad’s friends would have made it back home.

It’s very interesting that you took a trip to Keuka Lake. I’m thinking about going to Keuka College right around that area. This summer I went to Cape Vincent near the St. Lawrence River. I actually started a new job at McDonalds, but I quit at the end of the summer. Over the summer I read A Clockwork Orange. I’m only half way through my second book, A Thousand Splendid Suns.

It sounds like you had quite a fun summer. Over the summer I worked at Wegmans and Tim Hortons. I was working many hours each week and it burned me out. But i am stil pushing through. I went to Darien Lake a few times. One of the times i was there, i stayed from Monday until Thursday, for Kingdom Bound. Todd Smith came with me as well. I also had my first birthday party ever this summer. It turned out amazing. There were about twenty people there, small party. But the people that mattered were the ones that showed up. The month of July was the best month of my summer and my birthday party just added to it. That night ended in my close friends and I sitting by the river relaxing. Overall it was the best and worse summer of my life at the same time.

It sounds like you had a very nice summer. I did absolutely nothing on my break. I still have to do summer reading. I couldn’t even work due to my job, for some reason car washes are only busy in the winter. So I played video games all day. Well that was my summer, spectacular as it may be.

I went to the Corning Museum of Glass a few years ago. I thought it was pretty cool, some of the sculptures and stuff were amazing.I went to the Taylor Swift concert for my birthday in August. That was really fun. I got a cowboy hat at the fair and everything! I turned seventeen and on my birthday we got hit with the most random storm i have ever seen. There was hail and everything! I started looking at college stuff but I’m still not sure. All I know is that I want to stay close to home. Hopefully i can find someone to give me some pointers. Glad to hear your summer was good! See you in class!

This summer I worked a lot at Bagel Jay’s. It was pretty interesting, we get really busy in the summer. I also did the chalk walk for the art festival. I went to a lot of concerts this summer. Mainly local bands and some bigger bands that I like. I was with a lot of my friends this summer. I was with Beth Marvel the whole summer, boy was that terrible. Ha ha. I am joking. I went to a couple parties, one of the being Beth’s. She made us do a scavenger hunt. For this scavenger hunt we had to find and do different things around Black rock. One of the tasks on the list was finding a sofa and taking a picture on it…well I found one, but it was in a dumpster. My partner forced me to climb into this dumpster, sit on the sofa and take a picture. In the end we won and it was worth it, because I have a five dollar Timmy Ho’s gift card sitting at home waiting for me.

um…… well to he honest i had a really laid back summer, nothing too special. I went to a fashion/hair show which i thought was pretty interesting since the shop i work at was competing. The weather was pretty comfortable so i spent plenty of time in the sun. I went fishing a couple of times with my family in the mountains somewhere. I wanted to go out of town but unfortunately i didn’t. I hit up a couple of cook outs and successfully filled up my tummy (lol). I wasn’t prepared to watch my baby brother go off to his first year of high school. Pretty much it was a typical summer for me.

This summer, what can I say! My summer was very boring, nothing to do, no where to go, and did I mention it was very boring! I tried looking for a summer job and I could not find one. I didn’t want to stay in the house all day and just read, so I tried spending time with my best friend. My best friend and I did some shopping, went to the Italian festival, and a lot of walking around in my neighborhood. I was also trying to get my license but I didn’t so I’m trying to get it before it snows. I can say that this was the worst summer ever and I hope I never ever experience it again! So school is back in session and hopefully I can make the best out of it!

In a nut shell my summer was filled with parties, parties, girls, parties and more girls not too much of the educational things you teachers hope we do. All in all it was a good summer.

Well… Just thought I should commend you on actually reading this summer, I was supposed to but didn’t. I went to New York City and relaxed with family, went to Darien Lake a couple times, and caused trouble in the house. I also went shopping for school and for fun. I pretty much stayed out of trouble, for the most part, and had fun with the coolest people on earth. Darien Lake was great, the last time I went my friends forced to me ride the superman and i was scared out of my mind for the first 30 seconds but it was fun. We stayed to watch the laser show which was okay but the best part was laying down watching fireworks with good friends talking about weird people and eating junk foods. Over all it was one of the best summers of my life but for reasons that I cant post on the internet =) hope this year is better than the last 3!!!!!

When school had let out the first thing I did was study for my exams. Once I found out that I passed my exams I throw out all my notebooks. Then I had got started on my summer reading list. I wasn’t to happy about the summer reading list but i like how it was a reflecting paper, because in a reflecting paper you write down your comments instead of a plot. The two books I choose was “Fight Club” and “Who’s Afraid or Virigia Woolf”. “Fight Club” was one those types of books that kept you on your toes. When I first choose “Who’s Afraid of Virigia Woolf” I didn’t know it was a play but it was the only book that caught my eye. I thought it was going to be hard reading a play by myself but it wasn’t, i thought that was play as okey. Beside school work I had watch my one year old niece over the summer. I didnt mine watching her but the only problem was is she is bad. As a one year old she know how to do to many things for her age. One example is she know how to get out of her play-pen and walk up the stairs. She also comes in my room when I am sleep and trash my room, while trashing my room she had broke my glasses. Beside reading my two books and watching my niece I was also working two jobs. The two jobs were Forever 21 and Abercrombie in the galleria mall. My summer was very busy and crazy, but I am happy that I am back in school.

I had a fairly relaxing summer too. My grandmother and cousin from California came to visit for a week, and we all had fun. We went out to dinner and went to Niagara Falls. The best part of the summer, though, was when my dad and I went on a trip to visit colleges. We drove 2000 miles in 5 days and visited Indiana, Illinois, and Iowa.

Hmm, I can only define my summer by how many times I saw Mr Hans. he picked me up everyday since the week after regents exams to run cross country practice. Other than that I have gone to the square every week to pretty much party away my summer. I saw The Dark Knight about three times, the movie is amazing if you haven’t seen it. I also kept a close eye on the summer Olympics, mostly Michal Phelps if you hadn’t already guessed. And now I am staring into the first few days as a senior at da vinci high school, honestly I will miss it.

I went to New Jersey at the end of July, my grandma and I went for a hot air balloon ride, that was sick. My parents took Kelsey and I to Salem, MA. That was pretty sweet. I ended the summer with a camping trip, that one was actually real lame. Oh and I did my summer reading, The Kite Runner was a really good book.

My summer was a little busy. My older brother graduated from high school so we had a huge party for him. As part of his present we went to NYC. Going there was amazing! It was kind of how I expected it but there was a few things I found out. The subway gets very HOT and there was a time on the way back from the Yankees game when I declared that I never wanted to ride a subway again! I also realized that they are not kidding when they say it’s the city that never sleeps. I also worked at the Erie County Fair this year and that was an experience I will never forget! It rained almost everyday and we had a cheap tent and it rained on us too. Some days were so hot and long that I honestly thought the day would go on forever. It however did all pay off in the end. My brother left for college and now the house in quiet and I still haven’t figured out if that is a good or bad thing yet. Overall I would say that this summer was an enjoyable one.

This summer was kind of boring for me. It went a little fast for me and I felt like I didn’t have enough time to do everything I wanted to. Most of the summer was rainy too, and I don’t like rain or going out when its raining. Mostly I just hung out with my friend who lives close by me and we did what we could. I didn’t get a chance to get a job this summer because nobody was hiring when I went to apply which made my summer a little more boring. I didn’t have to much money to go out and do what I wanted, so I had to save my money the best I could. Now I’m finally ready to come back to school, work hard to get into a great College, and enjoy my last year of high school with all my friends.

This summer was by far the best summer of high school for me. I was busy for the majority of it; this summer was also the first during which I had a job. That was interesting. I work at Wegman’s, but when I wasn’t there I was everywhere but home. In July my brother and his girlfriend visited from New York for the fourth- that was spectacular. The rest of July was fairly slow; I hung out with friends, mainly Beth Marvel, Jess Fabbiano, and Kyle Durante- what a fun group. August is when things started to pick up. I went to Kingdom Bound at the beginning with Beth which was a totally new experience for me. Although I sprained my ankle on the trip and gimped around for the next three weeks. That sucked. But I’m better now! Anyway, after Kingdom Bound ended I worked for seven days in a row until Friday, August 22, when I left with my brother for New York like I do every summer. That was awesome. We sang some karaoke, went to a beach on the Atlantic coast, and explored the city. On the following Thursday we drove the seven hours back to Buffalo to visit with my parents until Labor Day. Finally, the summer culminated in a lovely tea party with three best friends; Amanda Oldham, Kara DeFranco, and Kaiti Grant. What a perfect way to end the perfect summer!

I also spent time watching my nephew practice Little League Football. During my busy summer I have taken time to read several books, two consist of the Summer Reading assigned to us Junior year.

After my trip I went to Fantasy Island. I had so much fun. I forgot how exciting and terrifying the Silver Comet was. I also went to an arabian wedding. It was nice to see how different customs celebrate weddings. It was beautiful and it was a very good experience for me. I read two books over the summer as well. I read Pride and Prejudice and Wuthering Heights. Pride and Prejudice was complicated and hard to understand. However Wuthering Heights was an amazing novel. It was mesmerizing.

I never thought I would be so sick of ice cream in my life. I also went to Sherkston Shores in Canada for the day with my aunt and cousin. we usually go up to Sherkston every year, but this summer we were only went up for the day. I have always wanted to go to the Corning Museum of Glass but I never went. my friends and I also went to Warped Tour at Darien Lake this year and it was a lot of fun! My 2008 summer vacation was the worst time of my life. Without going into too much detail, my vacation was derailed from the get-go. This summer was truly the darkest time of my seventeen years… On another note, I attended the opening weekend of the blockbuster movie “The Dark Knight.” I was blown away by not just the spectacular action and great acting, but I was intrigued by the philosophical questions it posed. I applied to two different places for a job, but I wasn’t accepted at either location. I didn’t do too much traveling and I didn’t get through both of my summer reading books. So, yeah, I hated this summer.

Your summer seemed like quite the adventure! I too had a fun summer. In July I went to Salem, MA with Katie. It was a lot of fun to go mock witch trials. Then in the end of July I went to Arizona with my family to see the Grand Canyon. It was very beautiful. It was a great photo opt. In August I went camping, like I do every year, at Allegany State Park with my family. Most of my time I babysat for friends and had a lot of fun. I read All But My Life and Fight Club. Fight Club was kind of confusing and I almost gave up on it but continued to read it. Oh!, and one of my favorite nights was probably when Katie, Jason, Patrick and I had a movie night in my garage and watched scary movies. Patrick was ridiculously scared and kept his hat over his eyes for the most part.
Anyway, my summer was just peachy.

I went to the Allentown Art Festival with my peeps, went to Canada a few times with my cousins, and I worked at my Aunt’s daycare to earn some extra cash. I also started scrap booking with my aunt and cousin. WORST ADDICTION EVER!!! I think I spent about sixty dollars in two days on paper, stickers, and albums. It’s sad, I know. So that was my summer pretty much.

    Hello everyone!
Well, my summer was quite intense! I worked like crazy at Dunkin Doughnuts in the galleria until i quit a few weeks ago ,however, now I work at Tim Horton’s. In the beginning of the summer i went to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. That was wicked fun! It was pretty much a party every day, I met a handful of kids my age and older that I hung out with a lot we went to the club together and what not. The rest of summer was pretty chill. The square was always much looked forward too. I hung out with Kristen and Nicole pretty much every day. We went to plenty of parties and got in oodles of trouble. I had plenty of great nights and conversations with Antonia. I went to my best friend Ashley Maire’s Mom’s wedding.
It was beautiful. I went up to Lewiston a lot to go to Tuesday in the Park with my boyfriend Michael. My birthday could not have been better. I went to the beach with Michael, Sarah, Kristen, Antonia, Nicole and Antonia’s and my brothers. Then after that a bunch more people came back to my house for cake and pizza and everyone just spent the night. Then this summer reading list took as long as hell. Although, I always would get distracted and go out.
In the end this summer was absolutely my favorite summer ever. It was pretty much amazing! I’ve made so many memories and so many new friends.
    Sincerely,
    Kristina Elizabeth Burley.

Summer seemed to move pretty slowly. But now that I’m looking back, I feel like I didn’t do anything.

The most exciting part of my summer was my trip to New Jersey/New York with Amanda (O). We stayed in New Jersey and took the train into New York for three days. Most importantly, I went to go see the historic Stonewall Inn (look it up! Awesome!)in Greenwich Village. Definitely the highlight of my summer.

Amanda and I visited some colleges while we were around the New York area. My personal favorite was Purchase. It’s one of the two colleges that I’m seriously considering. Purchase has a lovely campus, a fantastic art program, and is about 35 minutes out of the city. It’s number one on my list.

After New York, everything else was pretty boring. I spent a lot of time around Elmwood and Allentown. I went to the Art Gallery a couple of Fridays (it’s free!), I went to the free concerts on Bidwell, and had a picnic in the park with my friends. I also attended a tea party at Amanda’s house. Todd, Kaiti, and Brian were there. It may have been the coolest tea party ever.

Yes, I worked. Yes, I traveled. Yes, I read. Not as much as I could have and not really what I should have, but I read.

  39. on September 5, 2008 at 11:32 am Amanda Oldham Said:

I totally read more books than you! I WIN!! I read SIX books. That’s not including the summer reading.

The last week in July, I went to New Jersey with Kara. We were supposed to look at schools while we were there but only looked at a few. The rest of our time was spent taking the train into New York to walk around Greenwich Village and eat falafels. Kara even drug me to the Stonewall Inn on Christopher Street. It was fun though.

After the trip, everything seemed pretty boring. I didn’t do much other than hang out with Kara at the Albright. We did have a tea party. It was pretty amazing. I made cookies.

Hey, I am glad to see all of you this year. Anyways I am glad you enjoyed your summer. My summer was wonderful. I went for a vacation to Cedar Point with my family. I loved it. I would admit that i was a bit scare riding the highest roller coaster The Top Thrill Dragster, but it was fun. I was there for about a four days. I also went camping to Fantasy Island. It was my first time camping in a tent. I thought I would have hated but it was really fun. Finally what made my summer was that I finally got hire to work at Grow With Us Daycare. I love working there because I enjoy working with kids. I have learn a lot of stuff since I began working there that I thought I new. It is a intresting job. I hope my school year would be as exiting and fun just like my summer.

This summer was, well, very boring. From about a week after regents, I started working at my mom’s work. I worked at Buffalo Ambulatory Surgery Center all through out the month of July, everyday, from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm. I answered all the phone calls and put together patient charts. I also worked at least everyday in August. That work eventually paid off when I got my first paycheck, which was a lot. So, that made me very happy =]. Other than that that is about it. I didn’t go anywhere, didn’t do anything spectacular. I did go to a few grad parties though, those were fun. So, that was my exciting summer.

This summer was really relaxing.I really didn’t do too much.In the beginning of the summer I went to Mississippi for my great grandmother 90th birthday.I didn’t like it there because I don’t like the south. Yuck! When I came back home I went to the art festival and the fair.It was exciting.

Hello Mrs. Hannon, seeing as you are reading this response from me to your blog you did not succeed in your epic quest to keep me out of English 5. Your summer reading assignment was bunk as hell. Thank you for the candy necklace at The Ambrose Fete. And it was nice to see you at that thing at Caz library as well. So as Kelsey has probably already told you we all watched a scary movie and yes i was scared haha. Umm, what else did I do this summer? I spent a week at Conesus Lake with my moms family. We celebrated St.Patty’s Day this year, that was a blast. Yepp won the fishing contest this year. I “borrowed” a sign from downtown with a few of my friends. Oh and yea I WORKED over the summer, like a real job, seriously. I went to the beach one day but it rained so it totally sucked, well it was still fun but not as fun. I went camping for the 4th of July and hit a couple of concerts. Went to a preseason Bills game too. And hit a few Bisons games too. Well Thats about it.
    Sincerely yours Johan Guttenberg.

Hello! I had an interesting summer. For the whole month of July I taught kindergardeners for my church’s Summer Camp. It was tough on some days but the kids were awesome even though at times they drove me up the wall. I had 10 kids and had no help because the helper’s I had did nothing so I asked my youth leader if i could teach the kids by myself. I was relived that she understood and so by the second week i was on my own and it was so much better. It was nice every fiday we went on a feild trip,( Becker Farms,Aquarium, Fantasy Island, and Chucky Cheese) they loved it! Yeah now I definitly know that I am not meant to be a teacher. I have a new found respect for teachers. After that for the beginning of August I spent more time with Athena (my dog) and my family. Then from the 9 to the 15 I went to a youth retreat. It was AWESOME!!1 After I got back I started getting ready for school. Yup that was my summer!

Well hello there Mrs. Hannon. It’s nice to see that you had an eventful summer. This summer was a very interesting one. It wasn’t very eventful but it was very well relaxing. Over the summer I got a job at Auntie Anne’s in the Walden Galleria. Yes, I sell pretzels for a living. Not only do I do that, but I also get to run people over with my cart as I deliever pretzels from our main store to our little stand at the other end of the mall.
The summer reading took up a large amount of my summer. I was really getting sick of reading that 897 page book Mr. McDermott suggested. But in the end, the book was very interesting.
I was first in line at Borders in August to reserve my copy of “The Tales of Beedle the Bard”, the new Harry Potter book thatc omes out on December 4th. Im glad this pience of Harry Potter is coming out since the New Movie, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, was pushed back in release from November 21st, 2008 to July 17th, 2009. Luckily I will be able to cope.
I am in the process of writing my first novel. I haven’t decided on a title yet, but it is based on events that really took place here at Da Vinci, as well as some events that I created to make our somewhat boring lives sound more exciting. I hope to actually get it published before the end of the 2008-2009 school year.
Well that’s all that really happened this summer. I am really looking forward to finally being a part of this class and I hope that everything we do will be exciting and fun.

It sounds like you had a great summer Mrs. Hannon! Well this summer just flew. My summer began with a trip to Cedar Point with Ashley, it was kind of like a mini road trip. We stayed there for four days and it was tons of fun. I also did a ton of camping at Allegany Mountain Resort in Springville. I did manage getting a job at Dunkin Donuts in the Boulevard Mall. So make sure you come visit!
As for the summer reading…I didn’t start it until the last few weeks of August. I do admit I’m a procrastinator but hopefully they came out alright. The books were amazing, I loved the Kite Runner. But not so much the reflections! I’d rather have just read the books =]

My summer wasn’t the best it could have been better. I really did nothing all summer except work and a few other things. I traveled once and that was to Albany when school first let out. I worked over the summer 5-6 days a week. The money was nice but the work wasn’t. I didn’t really do anything that exciting. I visited Daemen college that was ok. I really didnt see my friends at all, a few times here and there. Towards the end I was just ready to come back…. and now im just ready to GRADUATE! I cannot believe that were finally seniors but now its time to focus and graduate

This summer was one of the most boring vacations I have ever had. I was so board I decided to get a job so I wouldn’t be in the house all day. Worst mistake of my life! I would rather sit in the house and watch t.v. all day than make food at Taco Bell. I honestly don’t think I get paid enough for the kind of work they try to make me do. My boss had the audacity to tell me to clean the bathroom. I thought either she was just joking or she had lost her mind. That is so discusting and I don’t even clean my own bathroom. So I sat on the sink in the bathroom for 20 minutes then I told my boss that I was done. She didn’t even check to see if I really did it.
Now I’m looking for a new job in retail, not in the food industry. As soon as I find another job I’m putting in my two weeks notice at Taco Bell.
